Olivia Little.
Candidate for President
I’m a first year law student and I am running for student body president. Having already been president at my sixth form for two years I recognise the challenging nature of being the student president and will fully embrace it. I believe I am suited for the role of president as I have strong leadership skills and work in an organised, punctual manner. I want to ensure every student feels represented and feels their needs are a top priority to the student union.
If elected, I hope to implement easier access to better mental health services for all who require it with a focus on destigmatising it, especially in men.
To help bridge the gap between university and the workplace, I want to bring in speakers outside of societies to deliver talks to help students better gauge what industry they may want to move into with an emphasis on helping women in stem and minority groups. As well as workshops to help 3rd year students improve their CV and help prepare for assessment center days. Also, tax and business literacy classes to aid people who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs.
Due to the cost of living crisis, I want to allow sudden financial difficulties as reasoning for an extension instead of just extenuating circumstances. Better priced deals at the su across campus to help those struggling with the cost of living crisis and workshops on fiscal responsibility and budgeting to help alleviate the pressures on students.
Working with the hall life team, I want to provide more weekend and evening activities outside of the su to allow students to meet others in an alcohol free environment. I also want to create different themed nights at the su and more alternative nights at medicine outside of toast.
I believe a mentoring scheme will be beneficial to aid first years with the transition from secondary school to university and to give second to fourth year students the chance to gain valuable experience for their cv’s. I want to implement an anonymous query box on the RHUL app to allow for better communication between the students union and the student body. Finally, self-defense workshops on campus to help students feel safer.
