Candidate for President

Hi, I'm Muscab Salad, and I am standing to be your next SU president!

If elected, I hope to make meaningful changes at the SU that benefit all students.

Experience:

As you may know, I was elected to be your NUS delegate last year. It was an honour to be elected for this role, and l'd like to thank everyone who voted for me. As your NUS delegate, I represent you alongside the current sabbatical officers at the National Union of Students conference in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, this March!

During the COVID pandemic, I participated in a vaccine trial for over a year and did various media projects with the NHS and the National Institute for Health and Care Research. I did this to convince as many people as possible to participate in trials and that vaccines are safe. You can find a video I did here: https://youtu.be/D51P0TmPhWY

If elected, I will:

  1. Represent all Royal Holloway students regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender and sexual- orientation.
  2. A complete shake-up and reform of the SU security.
    • Limit the power student security have over other students
    • A more robust discipline system for SU security.
    • Maintain Mai's security survey and cultural competency training.
    • Improve CCTV and make body cameras a requirement at all times.
  3. Lobby the university to provide a more improved, reliable and frequent night bus service for students. Student safety should be the student union's main priority, and people should be able to get home safely late at night without having to pay extortionate taxi prices!
  4. 'Ensure that the Student Union adapts its prices in response to the current cost of living crisis:
    • Introduce a new loyalty card system that offers discounts for frequent shoppers at the SU shop.
    • Reduce the prices of basic groceries. No one should be paying £12 for 10 laundry capsules!
    • Introduce a coffee subscription at the union venue with the aim of working with the university to make it work across campus.
    • Allow SU venues to sign up for Too Good to Go or create an in-house alternative to fight against food waste!
  5. Increase the Halal and Kosher food options in the SU shop and weekly food market.

Finally, I want to ensure there is a complete shake-up of the SU and its relationship with students. I want students to know where their money is going and that it is being used to help them!
