Sophie McBurnie (aka Piri) is the brains behind the lyrics, and producer Tommy Villiers looks after the beats and rhythm. They’re the perfect match, combining old-school dance sounds and garage beats, with feel-good singalong choruses.

Featuring performances at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, and Radio 1’s Big Weekend, 2022 was a year to remember for the duo who burst onto the scene when their iconic drum and bass track ‘soft spot’ went viral on TikTok. The self-written and produced ‘froge.mp3’ mixtape, released in October of the same year, was toured around the UK and Europe with a headline show at Scala.

A pioneer for women in dance music, the past 12 months have been “absolutely mental” for Charlotte Plank. The singer, writer and producer has released a string of poppy drum & bass anthems and collaborated with scene legends Rudimental. Thriving off the chaotic energy, she’s also joined them onstage at festivals like Parklife, Glastonbury and BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend.

Her first single ‘Hate Me’ was inspired by the vision of Nirvana making a drum & bass hit. Now her music giddily pulls from influences as broad as The Cure, Apex Twin, The Prodigy, Lily Allen, Goldie, The Smiths, Bicep and Four Tet.

As well as boasting a blossoming fanbase, Plank is also a proud member of Loud LDN, a collective of female producers, singers and creatives featuring the likes of Venbee and Piri.

Last year, while working in a supermarket and writing music around the day job, she drew up an ambitious five-year plan that involved playing Glastonbury. She’s already way ahead of schedule but shows no signs of slowing down.

MAFRO makes emotional electronic music that swings between melancholy and euphoria, inviting the listener in, and putting them at the centre of the story. The North London artist has flourished as one of the UK's most promising new talents since the launch of his debut EP, Bloom, in 2023. He has been recognised as "dance music's upcoming breakthrough act" in NME's Top 100, and collaborated with the likes of Aluna, TSHA and Diplo on the latter’s recent Grammy-nominated album. Drawing influence from crossover pioneers like SBTRKT, Jai Paul, and Jacques Greene, MAFRO delivers a woozy, free-flowing approach to melody, juxtaposed with impactful lyrics that generate space for tension and release. This is electronic music, but rather than being rooted deep in the club, it’s drifting on its vapours. MAFRO’s singles ‘Love Me’ and ‘Bad Enough’ were released this year ahead of his forthcoming Higher EP, set for release in early 2024.
