Who we are

As your Students’ Union, we'll have your back throughout your university experience, whether that’s offering helpful advice on that niggling academic issue, campaigning for the changes you want to see on campus, or laying on great events and extracurricular opportunities through our student communities to give you a break from your studies.

Say hello to your Officers!

We're led by a team of four Sabbatical Officers - elected student leaders who work full-time in the SU for a year. Sharanya (President), Madelaine (VP Education), Olivia (VP Wellbeing & Diversity), and Bana (VP Societies & Sport) can't wait to welcome you to campus!

They’ll represent your views and opinions, run campaigns, and work alongside Union and University staff to make changes that will positively impact your university experience. They’re passionate about making your time at Royal Holloway the best it possibly can be, so make sure you get to know them and what they're working on this year!

What is a Students' Union?

A students' union is a student-led organisation that exists to represent the students at a university or college. Once you enrol at Royal Holloway, you automatically become a member of Royal Holloway Students' Union (often referred to as 'the SU' or 'RHSU').

We are a registered charity (non-profit) independent of the University and we exist to:

  • Promote students’ interests
  • Be the recognised representative body
  • Provide social, cultural, sporting and recreational activity

How We're Funded

As a charity, every single penny that we generate is reinvested back into services for students. We are funded in a variety of ways:

  • Block Grant
Each year, we receive a lump sum from the University which helps us to deliver our key services.
  • Commercial Operations
We run a shop, a pub, and two bars/nightclubs which generate vital income for the SU. We also hire out our venues to external clients.
  • Sales and Sponsorships
We sell advertising and sponsorship packages to external organisations that want to engage students.
