Candidate for VP Wellbeing & Diversity

I’m Beverly but you can just call me Bev. I am running for Vice President of Wellbeing and Diversity.

I have advocated for young people within Merton borough and done a lot of back work for some of the improvements you see integrated within your experience at Royal Holloway. I have also represented you as BAME and department representative and BAME collective convenor.

I have also experienced many of the services I aim to improve. If I were to be elected I would use not only my first hand experience but also yours to transform our wellbeing and diversity provisions. Being a student, I couldn’t do everything I wanted within these roles but we deserve better and that is what I aim to provide as VP.

These are the aims of my term:

*ENSURE ONLINE ACCESS AND BRING BACK EXTENSIONS*

We have been limited in our use of extensions but really we should bring them back. For the people who need them, I want to ensure that they can access it. This is the same with online access. If for people with additional needs

WHY?

People who need these additions should be able to access them and be able to complete their degree without unnecessary extra hardships.

*SU NIGHTS*

Feeling unsafe has been felt at the university within the past years, especially on SU nights. I aim to look at the security service we use and ensure due process is followed with any reports of misconducts by students and staff.

WHY?

Feeling safe and having a good time is non-negotiable.

*REVIEW WELLBEING SERVICES AND EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY POLICIES*

The Students’ Union still does not have an equality, diversity and inclusivity policy for 2021/22. This is simply unacceptable and needs to be corrected. I aim to create a policy that is representative of students and our standards of equality, diversity and inclusion.

WHY?

There needs to be a high standard that the students agree with so that we can hold poor conduct to account.

*REVIEW THE GP SERVICE*

The GP service, although helpful, has also been detrimental to students. There needs to be a review in the service and a consideration of whether they should be brought back or replaced.

WHY?

Regardless of being home or on campus we deserve the best care possible. This simply is not happening.
