#PimpMySummerBall Suspension

It is looking increasingly likely that our #PimpMySummerBall entry is going to be placed under a 24-48 hour voting suspension, similar to that incurred by Teesside Students’ Union on the first day of voting, after a number of suspicious accounts were identified to be tweeting on our behalf.

While the activity is currently under investigation by MTV it is likely that they’ll apply a similar sanction based on the Teesside precedent. It should also be noted that we have been taking immediate action when we have identified any suspicous accounts and reported them to Twitter for removal and will continue to do so throughout the competition.

That said, your support so far has been absolutely fantastic and our Royal Holloway Twitter army has been smashing it. We have only a fraction the number of students of our competitors and despite that we've mixed it at the top of the table even before the suspicous accounts went live.

You've shown we can compete without resorting to cheating so lets keep it fair going forward. With that in mind we would once again like to remind everyone about the rules laid down by MTV for the competition:

Votes Count When

  • Users tweet using the hashtag #PimpMySummerBall followed by their universities name
  • Users retweet a tweet including the hashtag #PimpMySummerBall
  • Users tweet from their desktops/smart phones
  • If a user fails to put a space after #pimpmysummerball, your vote will still be counted ie. #pimpmysummerballreadinguni

Votes are Rejected When

  • Tweets are from known spam/problem accounts – the MTV system picks up on these
  • Tweets are from probable spammers – the MTV system picks up on these
  • Tweets are from automated feed tools such as @twitterfeed, @rss2twitter, @button
  • Tweets are rejected from accounts younger than a day old – eliminates spam votes
  • Tweets are rejected from accounts with less than two followers – eliminates spam votes

Download MTV Trax to Help the Cause

One way in which you can continue to support us in the competition is by downloading MTV Trax and voting using the in-app banner. Each of these will be added to a total and the university with the most downloads will receive a 15% vote boost at the end of the competition.

We’ll update you with more details when we’ve received the official ruling from MTV.

Help Us Win 50 Grand

Want to take the Summer Ball to the next level? Well just imagine what we could do with an extra £50k cash injection if we win MTV Trax’s Pimp My Summer Ball Competition.

The premise of the competition is simple. Students vote for their university using a specific hashtag on Twitter such as #PimpMySummerBallRHUL (#PimpMySummerBallRoHo, #PimpMySummerBallRoyalHolloway or #PimpMySummerBallSURHUL also all work) and these are all added together to form a leader board with the winning university getting £50k.

Retweets also count and voting is based on hashtag tweet volume with the competition closing at 5pm on Wednesday 23 March.

As an added bonus the university with the most MTV Trax votes will receive a 15% boost to their vote total! Vote through the app by downloading it from your app store, then register your name and university via the in-app voting banner.

Finally, here’s a little bit of housekeeping from MTV regarding the rules.

Votes Count When
