Alice Goode.

Candidate for VP Wellbeing & Diversity

I’m passionate about everybody having space for their voice to be heard. I’m a disabled student and part of the Disabled Collective, meaning I have experience of issues minority groups face. I have experience of SU proceedings as I’ve been a society committee member for 3 years and understand the flexibility and organisation needed for this role. I believe in a people first approach, meaning I want your voice to guide my actions. My aims, if I were to be elected, focus on some of the core issues facing students on campus, especially from the most underrepresented groups. I promise to continue the work to make RHUL a more inclusive, safe, and happy place to be for everyone.

My 4 main aims that reflect and expand on current SU and University policy:

  • Amplify Minority Voices – I only have the lived experienced of being a disabled, white woman, I do not have experience of all minority groups. Therefore, I will work directly with societies, the collectives and individual students to create a space for their own voices to be heard. I don’t want to speak for you – I want to create a space for you.
  • A Centralised Student Services Hub – I have had first-hand experience of how the difference services (DDS, wellbeing, extensions etc.) don’t communicate to each other and our needs aren’t met in the most effective way possible. I will centralise the services so support can be accessed by telling your story once to one person. I will expand them for international and mature students who may have extenuating circumstances (language barrier or care duties) that aren’t given enough support.
  • Mental Health – students with mental health issues are statistically more likely to drop out of Uni. I will lobby the University for more extensive and proactive mental health support University wide.
  • Wellness Wednesdays – let’s make wellness a top priority. 2020/2021 has been rough. I want to guarantee the Uni is catering to your wellbeing as much as it possibly can. I aim to work with Insanity Radio, set up meditation sessions, yoga drop ins, and a zen zone in the SU to provide a calm and quiet space on campus as we hopefully transition back into on-campus learning.

I strongly believe in the Nothing About Us Without Us movement, so I pledge to directly engage with the student voice, listen to you and implement changes you want.
