Isabella Neergaard.
Candidate for School Rep - Life Sciences & The Environment
Hi there! My name is Isabella (feel free to call me Izzy) and I am running for school rep! I am currently a second-year psychology student, social secretary for Dance Society and work for the Neurodivergence & Disability team here on campus. If you have not met me yet, feel free to send me a message or say hi when on campus – I am always up for a chat and a coffee.
As school rep, it would be my job to liaise with my school (School of Life Sciences and the Environment) in order to create positive change. To me, this means listening to feedback from my peers, relaying it in a professional way to the different departments and escalate issues when needed.
One of the things that I wish had changed in my two years of university is the way marking is conducted. My friends and I have often received marks and sat back with a feeling that we were told to do something different than what the markers were told to look for, creating a feeling that the feedback on coursework becomes useless. It would be my goal to liaise with departments, VP of education and the school, to create an open environment, where marking criteria (and not just WAKE!) is shared with the students, in order to ensure the highest marks possible.
Furthermore, it would be my goal to work with the relevant departments to ensure that lecturers receive constructive feedback on their lessons, to help make lectures more engaging, interactive and a better experience for both parties.
I wish to be a point of contact for my peers – someone they feel comfortable coming to with concerns regarding their academic journeys at RHUL and someone they can trust will be on their side. It is my biggest hope that, if elected, I can work alongside my peers to create a bigger, better Royal Holloway and that together, we can create real, positive change that will continue far after we have graduated.
Ensuring the best experience for all students is something I have been passionate about, not only academically, but also in my spare time as a committee member in Dance Society, ensuring that dancers of all ages and abilities feel included, and at work on campus. I sincerely hope you will consider me for this position – if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
