Olivia Earl.
Candidate for School of Performing & Digital Arts
Do you want to see positive changes across the PDA School? Looking for a student who is committed to making your voice heard? Vote #EARLforARTS
I’m running for PDA School Rep because I am passionate about improving the experience of Performing and Digital Arts students.
Over the course of my time at Royal Holloway, I have regularly helped to address the concerns of my peers, particularly in my role as a Course Rep. A recent example of this was writing a letter requesting alterations to the structure of performance assessments during lockdown, which was successful. I am accustomed to responding to PDA-speci?c queries through my work as a Peer Guide and believe that this kind of inter-department and inter-year-group interaction is vital for performing and digital arts to continue to thrive at Royal Holloway.
If I were elected as PDA School Rep, I would love to carry out my work by delivering the following initiatives:
Your Assessments
I want to make sure that all students feel comfortable and con?dent about the decisions that are made regarding the structure of their assessments. This is particularly important while the pandemic is ongoing, as students are faced with alternative formats which can feel daunting.
Your Seminars and Registering Your Attendance
I want to work with Student Wellbeing to help students cope with any anxiety caused by contributing to seminars. I also want to devise a system ensuring that students are always reminded to register their attendance.
Your Academic Reps
I want to promote the work of Academic Reps, ensuring that all students know who their reps are and how to contact them. As part of this, I want to release regular surveys to ascertain how connected PDA students feel with their reps and devise a clearer system for students to raise their concerns.
Your Peer Guide System
Too many students say they have never heard about the Peer Guide system. I want to promote and improve engagement with this system as a way of caring for the wellbeing of new students and providing valuable mentoring opportunities for continuing students across the PDA School.
Your Personal Tutors
I want to increase the regularity of 1-1 tutor check-ins. My goal is for students to meet 1-1 with their tutor at least twice per term, and to ensure that all students know how and when to contact their tutor.
