Nalissa Wilkinson.
Candidate for School of Law & Social Sciences
Hello, my name is Nalissa and I am currently a second year Economics and Management student. I am running for LSS school representative because I really want to be able to help in making changes within the school, that will benefit students. I feel that I would be suitable for this role because in second year I have taken part in many activities that have improved my leadership and organization skills such as the following: secretary for Southeast Asian society, Project Leader of the Food Bank project, a member of the Speaker Coordinator Committee for TedxRoyalHolloway and Course representative for Economics. As course representative this year I have been responsible for attending department meetings, where I would give feedback on how the department can improve. I have noticed that there are various issues within the school that need to be addressed.
If I was to be voted as school representative this year my main goal would be to: improve the support offered to student’s especially those in Joint Honours degrees, as sometimes there is a lack of communication between departments. Whilst working as a course representative I have found that many Joint Honours Economics students have received unclear guidance from departments they are members of, and regarding complaints there is very little accountability taken on by departments. To address, this I would like to organize more opportunities for Joints Honours to have their voices heard. I have also found that there are improvements needed regarding communication, especially in the pandemic, there have been times where there is little guidance on how the school in general is working to support our education. As a school representative I would like to be able to attend meetings that aim to change the school in general and offer more support for students. Improving the quality of feedback is also a key issue I would like to improve for all of LSS. Some of the departments in schools have failed to offer useful feedback on students work that would help in ensuring that students are able to perform well and reach their full potential.
I would really love to be a school representative as it is exciting to be able to work with other department representatives in improving the standards of the school and helping to ensure students part of LSS are able to reach their potential during their time at Royal Holloway.
