February 2025
Welcome to LGBT+ History month 2025! This year, we’re proudly celebrating the national theme – Activism and Social Change to recognise the work of LGBT+ people who have made significant impact to legislation, healthcare, identity, social inclusion and more!
The month is led by SU President - Sharanya Sivarajah, VP Societies & Sport, Bana Asqalan, LGBT+ Students Community Officer – Mohan Dave and the wonderful LGBT+ Society. We are proud to focus on the theme of LGBT+ Activism and Social Change. The month is about exploring and shining the light on the discrimination and inequalities that LGBT+ people have historically experience in society, and still face today.
There are lots of exciting events on throughout the month including LGBT+ Speed Dating to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming space for queer people to meet the potential loves of their lives (and if not, just a fun way to meet their community). The funds generated by this event will be donated to the RHUL Transition Fund, an initiative founded by the 2023-24 LGBT+ Society Committee and LGBT+ Community Officer. The transition fund is a mutual aid transition fund to help transgender members of the LGBT+ Society funds private healthcare costs.
This was very important to us, considering both the theme of this year’s campaign and the prevalent struggles of the transgender community in present-day Britain. So, please make sure to get involved in the campaign, whether it's donating to the RHUL Transition Fund, or coming along to LGBT+ History Month Pub Quiz.
Throughout the month, we’ll be collaborating with LGBT+ Society and most significantly, we will be collaborating to take to the stage for the return of the much-anticipated, Queer Creativity Showcase. You can sign up to take part in the Showcase via the Queer Creativity Showcase Sign Up Form.
No matter how you celebrate it’s bound to be an enjoyable time, and I’m looking forward to celebrating the month with all students across campus.
For more information on the campaign or to chat about anything related to the LGBT+ Community, please get in contact via Voice@rhul.ac.uk or come along to an event to speak to friendly Students or Staff!
