Swipe card system for the back gate

    Passed
    • University Idea
I agree with the back gate closing times, yet students living in Egham and wishing to work late or going to the Students Union cannot leave via the back gate. The only option is the £1 Shh Bus or leaving through the front gate. I think a swipe card system whereby your college card can grant you access in and out of the back gate should be introduced for everyone's safety and convenience.

10:13pm on 19 Oct 16 It makes no sense that the back gate is closed to reduce noise levels when leaving from the front gate and walking all the way down Egham hill and through the residential streets means we walk through more streets than we would be if we were leaving from the back gate. At least with a swipe card system, a noise complaint can be matched to a time and therefore matched to students leaving at that time. Also, not everyone leaving campus is leaving the SU drunk. Some people are working late both at the library and from jobs on campus. We then have to walk an extra 20 minutes home on journeys that usually take 10 minutes. I can't say I ever feel safe walking home and especially when I have to walk all the way home from the front gate on my own.
