    University/Student/Local Resident forum

    Locked
There are quite a few groups on Facebook that Egham/Englefield residents use to vent their problems in the community but it might be good if there was a website or forum of sorts so that students and residents can vent their problems in an environment where the University has some form of involvement. Of course there is the environmental support centre in Founders but this effectively pulls students in to tell them off and give them advice on being good neighbours. In some cases this may be necessary but I feel there should be some sort of forum so that, in cases where both students and locals are willing to talk the problems over, it should be available. My housemates and I in Englefield Green have first hand experience of neighbours that can be a problem and some of the main themes thrown up in that particular instance were that the neighbours felt that as students we didn't have equal rights to them. It would also be good therefore if we could have this place to go where the University can clarify with neighbours and students alike their legal rights when it comes to things such as parking, loud music and other things that tend to come into debate when students live next to locals. I mean we are given the "good neighbours guide," by the University when we move in and are asked to read our contracts so in most cases students are more aware of what they can or can't do where as the neighbours aren't aware of what the University has told the students. This could also be a good place where Egham residents and students collaborate in order to help stop things such as crime (particularly bike theft) or to keep the local are clean and tidy- after all Egham is a picturesque town. In this way I feel that the University and the locals can come closer and work together in order to keep the peace rather than have the sporadic yet frequent outburst of anger that have caused problems in the town for years. Just an idea!
