Quiet Zone signs for the 1st & 2nd Floors of the EW Davison Library

Hundreds after hundreds of students have complained about the use of common study areas in the Library as a place for social gatherings. Even areas with study spaces are rendered tough to work in due to the continuous amount of unnecessary noise in the Library. Since group study rooms are not always available, working towards deadlines can be difficult for many of us with the amount of noise in the library. Upon consultation with dozens of other students with similar concerns, there is a general consensus about the need to introduce a culture of respect for other people working in the library. This can be achieved by introducing "Quiet Zone" signs on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Library, leaving the ground floor available for social gatherings and discussion if necessary.

12:45pm on 17 Mar 18 Unless people are being deliberately selfish and inconsiderate, there must be a difference of concept of SILENT and INDIVIDUAL To me, it means no whispered conversations AT ALL. Not when greeting your friends. Not to ask a question. Not when leaving your friends And definitely not any consultation, however quiet you think it is - it IS distracting. I think all conversation should be taken outside of these areas. Communication within these areas can take place by a messaging service of some kind, or pen and paper. The library rules do state that there should be no conversation.
