Proposal for a new blockchain society

Blockchain is often referred to as the “internet of the future” considering that it is potentially the most groundbreaking piece of technology since the internet. Identical to the accomplishment of the internet revolution of the 90’s, Blockchain is the new technological wave that will most likely reshape a multitude of different industries and end up changing our societies. Although Blockchain is known to be the technology behind Bitcoin, its application is much wider than that. Blockchain could be used by nearly all companies and public services to increase efficiency, security and reduce costs significantly by implementing a new idea of trust based on the unique feature of its transparent, cryptographically secure and tamper-proof nature. The first aim of The Blockchain Society is to gather students who are interested in the blockchain and the cryptocurrency space so that all members could continue to learn as a whole through recurrent brainstormings, debates and talks. We are already in contact with future and existing blockchain societies in different universities across the UK and also in Switzerland, our plan is to organize multi-university events with blockchain technology as the main subject. We will be hosting regular recaps of the cryptocurrency markets as well as meetups to discuss upcoming ICOs (initial coin offerings). Members of the Blockchain Society will gain knowledge about this subject through a synergic joint-effort between all the participants. Although we have big projects in mind for the future, we prefer to start small and evolve step by step after the essential pillars to support a healthy society are built. It’s important to point out that the existence of this society won't only be for enthusiasts of trading cryptocurrencies but for all different groups of people interested in the blockchain technology such as miners, hackers, entrepreneurs, developers, innovators, academics, and beginners. Many universities in the UK like Oxford and UCL already have a Blockchain Society, why not Royal Holloway?
