My name is Gemma Parson and I am a third year BA Geography student studying in the School of Life Sciences and the Environment. I was delighted to be selected as one of three student trustees for Royal Holloway Students' Union in July 2021.
My experience lies primarily within the environmental and governance sectors. Most recently, I completed a placement with the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty – Europe’s largest conservation charity. Between 2018-2020 I embarked on various placements with Essex County Council and the Environment Agency. Government is my preferred career path as it provides a range of vital services for people and businesses. My interest in sustainability, gender rights, governance and policy is also reflected in my academic interests such as modules including Gender and Development and Regeneration and Urban Policy.
My active status as an undergraduate student and subsequent involvement in Students' Union activities such as volunteering and societies, allows me to bring a current and diverse perspective to the Board. Volunteering in the local community is something I am passionate about and have held a team leader position for the last two years with Royal Holloway Volunteering.
