Massaoke

Massaoke is the singalong clubbing sensation that's sweeping the UK, from Glastonbury Festival to the Rugby World Cup, the Edinburgh Fringe and beyond.

The idea is simple. A brilliant live band plays pop, indie and rock anthems and the crowd sings along, guided by lyrics projected onto a giant screen. There’s no dreaded karaoke spotlight here – this is massaoke, where everyone sings together and the crowd is the star of the show. The result is a euphoric celebration of some of the best songs ever written.

Famous massaoke converts include Al Murray, who regularly joins the band to play drums, and Phill Jupitus, Tim Vine, Sara Pascoe and Arthur Smith who have all led the singing. Meanwhile, footage of Channel 4’s Jon Snow singing Blur’s Parklife at one of their charity fundraisers for the Amy Winehouse Foundation has become a YouTube hit.

Launched by a group of friends in London four years ago, it now has a sell-out monthly residency at The Phoenix in Oxford Circus, along with a sister club in Glasgow. The musical outfit also plays to packed tents at festivals across the country including Glastonbury and Latitude and sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
