‘Judo in reality is not a mere sport or game. I regard it as a principle of life, art and science. In fact, it is a means for personal cultural attainment.’ – Jigaro Kano, Founder of Judo
In Japanese, Judo means the ‘Gentle Way’ and is a Martial Art focussed on using one’s opponent’s force against them. The sport is a great way to keep fit, learn self defence and have fun. We are a friendly club, open to members of all abilities, to our regular training nights, which are taken by BJA approved black belt John Rogers, in association with Windsor Judo Club. Also look out for our annual fresher’s competition at the end of term one and the London Universities Open Competition, which we will be taking part in.
We are a friendly club and hold regular socials after training- as well as being active participants in the Come in Your Kit SU nights, we also frequent Medicine to play pool as well as hosting a range of non-alcohol activities including Geocaching!
In each session, we cover light cardio and stretching, Uchi Komi (improving throwing skills and technique), Nage Komi (throwing practice), Ne Waza (ground work practice including holds, strangles and armlocks) as well as guaranteed Randori (sparring practice) every week.
We are planning on attending the London Universities Open Competition.
