Individual Awards

Awarded to someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty of any member/committee member throughout their years of participation and has shown outstanding dedication and commitment to their group.

Awarded to individuals who are new to the group, have shown outstanding dedication, and made a significant contribution to the success of activities this year. Nominees for this award must be in their first year of being a member to the group.

Awarded to someone who has shown outstanding dedication to Student Opportunities, going above and beyond to make a difference to societies/media and wider student engagement, and dedicating their time to a number of different areas with the Students’ Union and student groups.

Group Awards

This is awarded to a group that has organised and delivered an outstanding event this year that was innovative, exciting and has left a lasting impression on those that attended.

This is awarded to a group that has made a significant impact through fundraising, campaigning or volunteering. This should include work with national or local charities, work on improving the lives of their members and students around them, tackling issues that impact students or working towards making a difference within the community.

Sarah Parker Remond was an African-American activist, an anti-slavery lecturer, and the first black student at Bedford College. Throughout her life, she promoted inclusivity, equality, and worked tirelessly to support the rights of minority groups. The Inclusion and Accessibility award is therefore awarded to a group that has demonstrated an outstanding effort to ensure that their activities are as accessible as possible and has made a significant effort to promote an inclusive attitude within their membership and in the wider campus community.

This is awarded to a group that has gone above and beyond the expected growth of a new society. Through this they will have successfully established themselves as a group of significant impact on student life at Royal Holloway, and on the Students’ Union.

This award will be to recognise a student group that have actively worked towards becoming more environmentally sustainable, going above and beyond to leave a lasting positive impact on the environment. This can be through specific events, initiatives or projects, sourcing more sustainable products, engaging in schemes or spreading awareness on campus that highlights sustainability or a specific environmental issue or concern.

New for 2025, the Small Group, Big Impact award will recognise the commitment, impact and achievement of the smaller groups we have on campus. Eligible to groups with 40 or less members, the winner of this award will need to demonstrate how they have made a big impact on their members and the wider Royal Holloway community. This can include (but does not need to cover all) examples of good governance, committee and member wellbeing, any successful events, fundraising and volunteering and any initiatives around EDI, accessibility, and sustainability.

Awarded to a group that has made significant effort to develop their group this year including membership recruitment, range and success of events, maintaining good finances, committee development etc.

Awarded to a group that has made a significant contribution to Royal Holloway, student life, and the Students’ Union. They should have worked in order to significantly grow as a group, attracting a wider range of members, holding innovative events, and working to hit objectives across all areas of the development plan.

Event Awards

In addition to the award for the Best Event, this year we will be celebrating the diversity of events that are run on and off campus by our student communities by recognising the following additional categories. Please refer to the considerations for the Best Event award when completing your nominations.

This award recognises a group that has held an event that is informative, engaging and educational, providing an opportunity for attendees to develop their knowledge, skills and employability.

This award recognises an event that encourages our student community to meet to enjoy shared hobbies and interests in a social environment.

This award recognises a collaboration where our student communities have come together to share interests and knowledge to deliver an innovative event to their members and/or the wider Royal Holloway community. This must include a minimum of 2 student groups.

This award recognises an exceptional event delivered by one of our Creative or Performing Arts Societies, showcasing the breadth of creativity we have here on campus.

This award recognises a student group that has delivered an event that demonstrates cultural awareness and has created an inclusive environment helping to celebrate one of the many faiths and cultures we have in our student community.
