After a busy few weeks welcoming students to campus, it's time for an update from your Sabbatical Officer team!
Hannah - President
SHAG Week is coming to you soon! Behind the scenes, I've been planning loads of events to get you involved including a consent and active bystander training session. I've also attended a meeting with the SU Security Review working group to discuss implementing the recommendations from the Student Voice Report produced at the end of the last academic year.
Finally, I've met with the University's Finance and Investment Sub-Committee.
Sharanya - VP Education
These past few weeks, Lauryn (Academic Communities Coordinator) and I hosted training for our new cohort of academic reps on the revamped academic rep system.
Nisha and I have been coordinating with the Careers Service to promote the Summer Skills Placement Programme.
I will be joining WonkHE’s Policy Forum on harassment and sexual misconduct, as well as coordinating with the University to work on the new Access and Participation Plan.
Nisha - VP Wellbeing & Diversity
I have been working on a new campaign called Wobble Week, which will run from 23-27 October! The idea behind the week is that some students will still be feeling unsure about things and not fully settled yet, and this will be another week with events/activities where they can make friends if they still haven’t.
I have also been busy planning Coffee Catch-Ups in collaboration with Student Wellbeing and our Advice Centre. The first one kicks off next week - see you there!
Sharanya and I have met with the Widening Access team regarding our shared aim of outreach and recruitment programmes for underrepresented groups. Lastly, I have been getting to know all of our student Community Officers - I can't wait to meet the full team after our Autumn Elections!
Alastair - VP Societies & Sport
After a great Freshers' Festival, I'm excited to start work on our upcoming campaigns for Disability History Month, and the General Election. I've also chaired my first regional BUCS meeting where I met with Officers from other universities.
I'm getting prepared for the Societies, Sports, and Opportunities Executive meetings for the academic year.
