Next up in our Wobble Week 101 series is ‘Meet, Greet and Get Settled’. Each day of wobble week brings an opportunity to chat with SU representatives or university staff members who understand the student experience and are here to help you thrive. Whether you’re looking for guidance on student services, want to join a society or sports club, or just need a moment to catch your breath, these friendly faces are ready to support you. Whether you’re experiencing a “wobble” or simply want to say hello, these chats are here for you—no question or concern is too small.

But it will probably be handy to introduce you to the teams that are here to support you 😊

Sabbatical Officers

Firstly, me hi I am Olivia and I am your VP Wellbeing & Diversity this year at the Students' Union and essentially I am here to make student life better at Royal Holloway from a Wellbeing & Diversity perspective. I work in an incredible team with my three other Sabbatical Officers Sharanya your President, Madelaine your VP Education and Bana your VP Societies & Sport.  Every year the student body elects four Sabbatical Officers to work full-time in the Students' Union for a year. We work on a range of issues relating to student life, listening to your thoughts and opinions while running campaigns and working with the Students' Union and the University to implement positive policy changes.

Based on the first floor of the Students’ Union, the Advice Centre is a free and independent service for all students at Royal Holloway. We’re here to support you with a whole range of issues, big and small, and free from judgement. While our advisors specialise in academic and housing advice, we can offer guidance on just about everything that may affect you during your university journey. If we’re not the best people to help you with a particular issue, we’ll point you in the right direction.

The Students Union Give it a Go programme is run by Annika the Students’ Union Membership Events Coordinator and our Membership Events Assistants. These are smaller-scale events that are predominantly alcohol-free and focused on you meeting new people in a fun, relaxed and welcoming environment. Some highlights from Freshers' Festival include our Board Games Night, a Petting Zoo, a Trip to IKEA and loads more! So whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, culture vulture or just love a bit of art and craft, we'll have something for you.

The Hall Life team are on hand to run innovative face-to-face events and campaigns for you, and to promote a happy experience throughout your time in Halls!  They hope that through your interactions with them they’ll be able to help and support you to live independently, as part of the student Hall community. They understand that living away from home for the first time can be daunting so their top tip would be to use the Hall Life programme of events and activities to meet friends, learn something new and let us help you to settle into your new home away from home. Their team is made up of fellow students who have all lived in Halls before and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with you. They can talk to you about any problems you may be facing (no question is too silly) and direct you to more specialised help if you need it.

Whether you're looking to pick up a new sporting hobby, or you're always in the gym, there's something for everyone of all abilities. From one-off events and regular drop-in sport sessions to gym memberships and group exercise classes. Keep an eye on the Royal Holloway Sport app, screens around campus and their social media channels to stay up-to-date with everything that’s on offer. Studies have shown that students who exercise work better and being physically active can help with your mental wellbeing too. Physical activity is for everyone and experience is not a requirement. Their Active Sport programme is an excellent way for you to engage in recreational sports, stay fit, and build social connections within the university community as part of a healthy lifestyle.
