A staggering 1.6 million young people have registered to vote since the General Election was called - it's time to make sure you know when, where and how you'll cast your vote and get your voice heard on 4 July.

general electionturn up

A staggering 1.6 million young people have registered to vote since the General Election was called with students and apprentices making up 10% of the voting population.

We hold the balance of political votes in constituencies across the country. That means our votes can make the difference between who wins and who loses. Essentially, we have POWER at the General Election.

With the election in just 9 days, make sure you know when, where and how you'll cast your vote and get your voice heard.

Pets at Polling stations

If you're voting in person, you'll need to head to your local polling station at some point between 07:00-22:00 on Thursday 4 July. Not sure where you're meant to go? Head to the Where Do I Vote? website and type in your postcode. You must be registered to vote and you can only vote at your assigned polling station with a photographic ID.

We love dogs and democracy, so we thought we'd put them together on 4 July and bring you some pets at polling stations over on our Instagram Stories @SURHUL! If you and your furry friends are voting next week, tag us on Instagram so we can share your pup's post.

Vote by Proxy

If you’re unable to vote in person you can ask someone to vote on your behalf. This is called a proxy vote.

You can only apply for a proxy vote under certain circumstances, including:

  • being away on polling day
  • being registered as an overseas voter
  • having a medical issue or disability
  • not being able to vote in person because of work or military service

Your proxy should be someone you trust to vote on your behalf. You’ll need to tell them which candidate (or referendum outcome) you want to vote for. This is a great option if you can't vote yourself so don't miss out. The deadline to apply to vote by proxy is 5pm tomorrow, Wednesday 26 June.
