As we navigate through the challenges of student life, taking care of our mental health and wellbeing becomes increasingly important. Therefore, today we're sharing some top tips for supporting mental health and wellbeing, along with the benefits of spending time outside in nature.

Top Tips for Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing:

Reach out:

Don't hesitate to talk to someone you trust if you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling with your mental health. Whether it's a friend, family member, or mental health professional, sharing your feelings can be a huge relief. Don’t forget the University’s Wellbeing Team and our Advice Centre are always here to support you!

Practice self-care:

Make time for activities that help you relax and recharge. This could be anything from reading a book, listening to music, taking a bath, or practicing mindfulness and meditation.

Stay active:

Physical activity is not only good for your physical health but also for your mental wellbeing. Whether it's going for a walk, hitting the gym, or practicing yoga, find an activity you enjoy and make it a regular part of your routine.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle:

Eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and avoiding excessive alcohol and drug use can all contribute to better mental health.

Set boundaries:

Learn to say no when you need to and prioritize your own needs. It's okay to take a step back from commitments or activities that are causing you stress.

Practice Mindfulness Outside:

Exposure to sunlight helps regulate our sleep-wake cycle and boosts the production of serotonin, the hormone that contributes to feelings of happiness and wellbeing. So, try to spend some time outdoors soaking up the sun's rays whenever you can.
