With student loans dropping this week, we're here with a reminder to remain vigilant against scams and frauds that target your maintenance loan payments.
Scammers may try and trick you into giving away personal and financial information by sending fake emails (phishing) and texts (smishing), or by calling and pretending to be from the Student Loans Company (SLC), Student Finance England (SFE), or other legitimate organisations.
These organisations will never ask students to provide their personal or financial information via email or text message. If you receive a suspicious message, please contact moneymatters@rhul.ac.uk or go and visit the Financial Wellbeing team in Room 135 in Founder's East before you take any further action that might put your money at risk.
If students receive calls from individuals claiming to represent the SLC (0300 100 0611), SFE (0300 100 0607) or even the University (01784 27 6641), asking for personal information then we recommend that you end the conversation and offer to call back on one of the official customer service lines.
By doing so, you will ensure that you are talking to the organisation themselves and not a fraudster.
You can find further details on common frauds and scams as well as how to seek support from the Financial Wellbeing team via their website pages.
