The Executives are committees chaired by one of the VPs and filled with student representatives responsible for the development, scrutiny and maintenance of policy and plans in their area. In this blog, we're getting to know the members of the Wellbeing, Community & Diversity (WCD) Executive and what they're up to this year.
The Sabbatical Officers have several ways to gather student feedback on everything from student groups to your wellbeing to your studies. One of those ways is through our Student Executives.
The Executives are committees chaired by one of the Vice Presidents and are made up of student representatives responsible for the development, scrutiny and maintenance of policy and plans in their area, as well as where work needs to happen! In this blog, we're getting to know the members of the Wellbeing, Community & Diversity (WCD) Executive.
Wellbeing, Community & Diversity (WCD)
The Wellbeing, Community & Diversity (WCD) Executive focuses on wellbeing, equity and diversity, inclusion and community at Royal Holloway.
Who leads the Wellbeing, Community & Diversity Executive? The VP Wellbeing & Diversity!
Nisha Bundhun
This year, as part of my role as VP Wellbeing and Diversity I have the incredible opportunity to serve as chair of the WCD Executive. I have the responsibility of facilitating and guiding the discussions that take place throughout the meeting and ensuring everyone present feels comfortable, this encourages active participation from all members of the executive.
I will also be collaborating with Aran, our Representation and Democracy Coordinator at the Students' Union, to create the agenda for each meeting. The agenda is designed to align with the goals of the Executive and to allow for productive discussion around issues related to wellbeing, community, and diversity. Me and Aran also evaluate the work of the Executive and identify areas for improvement.
My responsibilities also include regularly reporting the progress and outcomes of WCD Executive initiatives to relevant stakeholders such as the Students' Union's or University's administration.
However, I am most excited about the fact that this Executive allows for student voices and perspectives to be directly incorporated into my manifesto points and other project proposals, meaning the work we do will be reflective of student interests.
Who attends the Wellbeing, Community & Diversity Executive?
The role of the attendees, apart from providing feedback and their own experiences to inform the work of the SU, is to hold the VP Wellbeing & Diversity accountable for their work, providing support and acting as a critical friend.
VP Wellbeing & Diversity (Chair) – Nisha Bundhun (she/her)
President – Hannah Hockin (she/her)
As President, I sit on all three Executives - Exec week is very busy for me! My role as President is to provide support and help to facilitate conversation in meetings. As a second-term Sabbatical Officer, I also offer additional knowledge when discussing all things relating to the Students’ Union. I’m super excited to have meaningful and insightful conversations on key issues within the Execs and to see and support all three Sabbatical Officers in taking on responsibility for chairing their executives.
