With the announcement on Monday 23 March of tighter restrictions around social distancing due to the spread of Covid-19, we wanted to reassure those students still living on campus that the Union Shop will remain open.
It's important that those of you living in halls can make the shortest trip possible to buy essentials and we're committed to continuing this service, but we are making a number of changes to how we operate which we need your help with.
- We're asking all customers to maintain a two metre (2m) distance to other shoppers. We have also marked out 2m intervals at our tills points to ensure people queuing maintain their distance.
- Hand sanitiser stations have been installed at the entrance to the shop, with one located on the newspaper stand (on your right as you enter) and another on the left-hand side of the Krispy Kreme cabinet.
- A staff member will be located at the front entrance asking all customers to sanitise their hands on entry, prior to shopping, and to remind individuals to maintain a 2m distance to other customers.
- We have closed our till at the front door and will only be operating tills one and three - we are also asking customers to scan their own products to reduce contact with our staff team.
- Self-scan tills are scheduled to be installed in the shop on 20 April - a regimented cleaning schedule will be in place for these.
- All payments are now cashless to reduce contact.
- Purchases are limited to two of any single product line.
- Entry to the shop is now limited to the external doors.
We have also updated our guidance to staff and further enhanced our cleaning regime including:
- Staff are required to wash their hands every 20 minutes whilst working.
- All high contact areas are cleaned every two hours.
- The whole Union Shop is cleaned professionally by the College's contracted cleaning team every evening.
- Staff are also to maintain a 2m distance where practically possible.
- Additional personal protective equipment has been sourced for staff.
As we have previously stated, we have well-developed supply chains that are robust, and the team are working incredibly hard to keep our shelves fully stocked. Our opening hours remain 08:00 - 18:00. We're currently still working on ways in which we can support students who are high risk or have accessibility issues and will release more on this in the near future.
Easter Opening Hours
The Union Shop will be closed over Easter weekend, Friday 10 April - Monday 13 April, re-opening on Tuesday 14 April. Please ensure you plan ahead and purchase your groceries and other essential items in plenty of time to avoid making the shop busier than it needs to be.
