First day on campus and don’t know where to go? I will show you a few of my favourite places on campus!
Use this as your cheeky little guide to know the ins and outs of campus, from places to study to places to sit down for some tea-spilling ☕️
Let’s start with the good stuff… where to eat?
The Packhorse:
From Double down Tuesday to Saturday 7s, there is always a good deal at The Packhorse! Their burgers are SCRUMPTIOUSSSS! A must-try, I might add.
The Boilerhouse:
If you want a SWEET TREATTT and a coffee then Boilerhouse is the place to go. You’ll probably find me there grabbing a bite.
Crosslands:
Everyone RAGESS about Crosslands, but I’ve never been there. But, according to Olivia, our VP Wellbeing and Diversity: “Really good jacket potatoes, and seasonal foods (based on the weather). They also have a board game shelf, for personal use”.
The Hub:
Catering: The Hub catering offers a great range of delicious food, catering to all dietary requirements (halal, vegan, vegetarian). The Hub catering offers students discounts on their meals. You can take a look at their menu here.
They also have a tasty Noodle Bar, where you can build your own stir fry.
Catering runs Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm for lunch and is open on the weekend for brunch, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, and dinner 6 - 8 pm.
Kimiko: Serves hot Japanese food and fresh sushi. Full of flavour, 10/10 would recommend you try it. Some of their menu items can be found here or you can try my personal favourite, Spicy K-pop chicken.
Open only on weekdays, 11 am to 8 pm.
Imagine for BubbleTea: Hidden gem, found downstairs at The Hub!
Open Monday to Saturday, 11 am to 8 pm, and 12 - 8 pm on Sundays.
What if you just want to grab something quick on your way to your lectures?
Only one right answer: SU shop
Located in the Emily Wilding Davidson Building, the SU shop is the perfect place to grab a quick bite before your lectures or a snack if you’re craving one!
Time to sit down and relax, after filling up our stomachs
(you can also study here, that’s what you’re here to do)
Founder’s Reading Room:
Hidden somewhere in Founders' (It takes me about 30 minutes each time to find it), the Founders' reading room is the perfect place to study if you want some peace and quiet. You can hear a pin drop there. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, apparently it looks like something out of Hogwarts!
Every time I go to the Founders' reading room I take pictures of it because it is so aesthetically pleasing.
Emily Wilding Davidson Building (The Library)
This is the Library, formally known as Emily Wilding Davidson building! There is a group study area where you can study with your friends, or if you prefer to study in silent spaces, they also have a silent study area.
The library is alwaysss busy, so if you want the good seats get there early (especially during exam season).
You can also book rooms in the library! The rooms have screens, so you can share PowerPoints with your friends. (sometimes we do movie nights there, but I recommend doing that when not many people are studying)
Shilling Building
Very quiet space, as not many people know that you can study there! (if you’re reading this, gatekeep it). The most comfortable couches and beautiful scenery there.
Lastlyy… but not least:
Where to go if the weather is nice and you want to chill?
Founders Field:
You will see that many people go there during Term 3 and have little picnics or sunbathing. I used to buy ice cream from the SU shop and run to Founders’ field for some sun.
