This week, we've been catching up with our School Reps on what they've been up to and to find out some exciting department updates! First up, we hear from School of Life Sciences and the Environment (LSE) Rep, Isabella Neergaard.
An Update from Isabella
What Have You Been Working on?
Throughout this year, I have been working on ensuring that LSE feels like a home to all its students. It is such a diverse School, which is absolutely fantastic, but also means that students often relate more to their peers on a department level. This year, I have really worked on creating collaborative events, such as Christmas decoration competitions and Rep Drop-ins, so that there can be some interdepartmental communication. I've also worked hard on reviving the School's Instagram so that it works to its full potential! Lastly, I've been involved in a lot of discussions relating to marking processes and how to ensure that these are running better in the coming years.
How Can Students Contact You?
Students can best contact me on the Instagram page (@rhul_lsereps) or via email (isabella.neergaard.2021@live.rhul.ac.uk). It sometimes takes me a while to respond to emails because of academic work, but I will! Also, don't be afraid to come to see me in person around campus - I am always up for a coffee and a chat, if there is something LSE-related that you would like to discuss.
How Can Students Get Involved?
If you would like to get involved with LSE or student representation in general, you should nominate yourself for LSE School Rep 2024/25! The role is wonderful, as it allows you to meet so many of your peers and add some meaning to your time at university. If you are not looking to get involved on a School level, you could go for Senior Course Rep or Course Rep positions within your course!
Any Other Useful Information for Students?
The School of LSE is such a fantastic community to be a part of no matter the department you belong to. Remember to say yes to things that come your way, whether it's volunteering opportunities or guest lectures, as the time to get those experiences is now!
What's Happening across the School of LSE?
This year the School of Life Science and Environment (LSE) has set up a "Teaching Excellence Seminar Showcase". This is a fortnightly event where members of LSE staff present innovations in teaching that they are developing to other staff from across the school. These seminars cover authentic assessments, the use of Moodle, and AI in assessments. The goal of this showcase is to share the best practice in teaching that goes on across the School to enhance the education that we provide and improve the student learning experience.
The THESIS team is excited to announce the "To Academia and Beyond" event, scheduled for 20 March from 1pm-6pm in the Wolfson Building. The event includes Q&A sessions, poster presentations, revision sessions, and other fun activities. We hope to see many of you there.
