MENtion it: Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

This year, Olivia, our VP of Wellbeing & Diversity, and Bana, our VP of Societies and Sport, are leading the way with a powerful, month-long initiative called MENtion it. This campaign is dedicated to encouraging men to speak openly about mental health and challenging the stigma that often surrounds these conversations

November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize and address the unique challenges men face regarding mental wellbeing. This year, Olivia, our VP of Wellbeing & Diversity, and Bana, our VP of Societies and Sport, are leading the way with a powerful, month-long initiative called MENtion it. This campaign is dedicated to encouraging men to speak openly about mental health and challenging the stigma that often surrounds these conversations.

Why MENtion it?

Mental health is as vital as physical health, yet too often, men feel pressured to keep their struggles hidden. Whether due to societal expectations or a reluctance to be perceived as vulnerable, many men feel isolated when facing mental health challenges. MENtion it is here to change that by creating spaces and opportunities for men to share, support each other, and recognize that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

Throughout November, MENtion it will feature a range of events, discussions, and initiatives focused on creating awareness and offering support. By highlighting the importance of open dialogue and mental health resources, we hope to break down barriers and promote a culture where men feel safe to speak up.

Celebrating Movember on Campus

In addition to MENtion it, we’re excited to support and celebrate the incredible work that our societies and sports clubs do for Movember—the annual campaign encouraging people to grow out their moustaches in support of men’s health issues, including mental health, suicide prevention, and physical health concerns like prostate and testicular cancer.

Movember serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of addressing men’s health, and we’re thrilled to host our own Movember fundraiser on campus this year alongside Women’s Football, Men’s Football and Netball. Look out for ways you can get involved and show your support by donating, spreading the word, or even growing a moustache yourself!

Join the Movement: Just MENtion it

This month, let’s make a collective effort to prioritize men’s mental health. Join Olivia, Bana, and the rest of our community in embracing the MENtion it message. Together, we can make a difference by creating a more supportive environment and encouraging men to take that crucial step towards mental wellness.

Let’s break the silence around men’s mental health. Just MENtion it.
