The Executives are committees chaired by one of the VPs and filled with student representatives responsible for the development, scrutiny and maintenance of policy and plans in their area. In this blog, we're getting to know the members of the Societies, Sports & Opportunities (SSO) Executive and what they're up to this year.
The Sabbatical Officers have several ways to gather student feedback on everything from student groups to your wellbeing to your studies. One of those ways is through our Student Executives.
The Executives are committees chaired by one of the Vice Presidents and are made up of student representatives responsible for the development, scrutiny and maintenance of policy and plans in their area, as well as where work needs to happen! In this blog, we're getting to know the members of the Societies, Sports & Opportunities (SSO) Executive and what they're up to this year.
Societies, Sports & Opportunities (SSO)
The SSO Executive focuses on ratifying new student groups, allocation of resources, and advising on any issues happening within student groups.
Who leads the SSO? The VP Societies & Sport!
I’m Alastair, the current VP Societies & Sport! The SSO Executive helps me to make key decisions involving student groups across the year, and also acts as an important part of student voice inside the SU and Student Opportunities team.
I’ll be leading, organising, and chairing the team, and this year I’m working to make sure everyone feels empowered to have their voice heard in our decision-making process. I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and importantly voting on ratification for new student groups and growing our already large range of opportunities on campus!
Who attends the Societies, Sports & Opportunities Executive?
The role of the attendees, apart from providing feedback and their own experiences to inform the work of the SU, is to hold the VP Societies & Sport accountable for their work, providing support and acting as a critical friend.
VP Societies & Sport (Chair) – Alastair Copland (he/him)
President – Hannah Hockin (she/her)
As President, I sit on all three Executives - Exec week is very busy for me! My role as President is to provide support and help to facilitate conversation in meetings. As a second-term Sabbatical Officer, I also offer additional knowledge when discussing all things relating to the Students’ Union. I’m super excited to have meaningful and insightful conversations on key issues within the Execs and to see and support all three Sabbatical Officers in taking on responsibility for chairing their executives.
