SU-Supporting-You

At Royal Holloway, we are passionate about supporting you in every aspect of student life, including the financial challenges that are associated with university. With 76% of students feeling the effects of the current cost of living crisis (Student Academic Experience, 2023), we are proactively working to support you in reducing the mental and financial burden associated with this crisis.

What are we doing?

  • We have an in-depth guide outlining the range of support available in our Cost of Living Hub which details our campaign action plan, the Students’ Union initiatives, as well as a handy list of top tips to make your money go further.
  • To help you enjoy the social side of university life at an affordable price, our venues run offers throughout the week. From £1.95 drinks at Toast to ‘Double Down Tuesdays’, Thursday 3s, and Saturday 7s at The Packhorse, there are opportunities to combat the rising cost of living on your disposable income.
  • Take further advantage of these deals at our SU venues by using the RHSU Order app, where you can order, collect points and earn rewards to redeem for further food and drink purchases.
  • If you’re looking to try something new this term, our Give It a Go calendar offers smaller-scale events (many of which are completely free to attend!) that are predominantly alcohol-free and can be a great place to meet new people in a relaxed environment.
  • Joining a new student group, society, or sport can be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable parts of student life. However, membership and other associated costs can feel like a financial barrier. Our Student Group Access Fund is available for students to apply for up to £150 to help cover membership, kit, and competition entry.
  • There are free period products, STI kits, and pregnancy tests available on the first floor of the Students’ Union which are available for all students to pop in and pick up during opening hours (10:00-16:00, Monday-Friday).

If you are feeling concerned about the Cost of Living crisis, the Advice Centre is available for all students and provides free, independent, and confidential advice from experienced and professional staff on a range of issues, including finances. As your Students’ Union, we are committed to supporting you during this crisis. Further details on our Students’ Union initiative, as well as University Work, Community advice, and opportunities for Part-Time employment on campus are all available on our Cost of Living Hub.
