You’ve made it! After all the long days and nights of studying hard, you’ve just finished your last exam. But now what? It can be easy to fall into the post-exam blues/stress. You deserve to unwind and enjoy the activities that may have taken a backseat while you’ve been revising so here are 8 things to do now that your exams are over!

Celebrate

Take a moment to celebrate all the work you’ve been doing. Whether your exams went exactly as planned or there were a couple of bumps along the way, you’ve done the best that you could and completing them is a significant achievement. Treat yourself to something special, host a celebratory end-of-exams potluck with your friends or have a nice meal out!

Movie Marathon

Your brain could probably use a break from textbooks, study notes and lecture slides. Indulge in a movie marathon or series binge (without the stress of exams looming in the background). If you’re looking for a luxury cinema experience, head down to the Everyman in Egham to enjoy a range of films from the latest blockbusters to independent and art-house releases.

Creative outlet

Why not unleash your creativity at Genevieve’s Gallery in Englefield Green with a pottery painting session? Choose from a variety of pottery items, paint them with vibrant colours, and let your imagination soar. Or have your own sip-and-paint session at home or outdoors to release your inner artist.

Reconnect with nature

If you’re craving a bit of adrenaline after the stress of exams, why not go on an outdoor adventure? Go on a leisurely walk in Windsor Great Park or kayaking on the River Thames. Check out the best walks around Egham.

Read for pleasure

Your to-be-read list is waiting to be checked off. Pick up a book that you’ve been dying to read for months, whether it’s been sitting on your shelf or you treat yourself to something new at Waterstones. Find a cosy spot in a local cafe or a park to lose yourself in a good book.

Go on a day trip

No matter what your vibe, tastes or interests, there is always something to do in London. Check out the various free museums or take a picturesque stroll around the different parks.

Plan for the future

If you’re a real go-getter and want to get a head start on some work experience, try and look for a part-time job. There are also lots of volunteering opportunities, which is a great way to get work experience but also give back to the community and meet new people.

Remember, you’ve worked hard and you’ve done the best you can. You should be proud of what you have achieved!

Further Support

Our Advice Centre is a free, independent, and confidential service for all students here at Royal Holloway. Our friendly, experienced, and professional staff will provide a listening ear and offer general and specialist advice. We’re here to support you with a whole range of issues, big and small, and if we’re not the best people to help you with a particular issue, we’ll point you in the right direction.

If you have a query regarding exams, assessments, or academic appeals, our Advisors are here to help! We know that sometimes you might receive a grade or an outcome that you aren’t happy with. It’s important to note that if you just think you should have received a better grade, you will not be able to appeal this decision, as it is classed as academic judgment. However, some decisions about your academic outcomes are open to appeal.

Our advisors hold drop-ins on Zoom and in person every Tuesday and on Zoom every other Wednesday during term time. You can find more information on our Events Calendar on how to join the virtual drop-ins.
