As your Students’ Union, we are championing the interests of students by tackling campaigns throughout the year. These campaigns vary in length from year-long agendas, liberation history months, to a week of action, all of which focus on making positive change for students. These campaigns are generally led by our Sabbatical Officers or one of our Students Leaders, but any students can get involved or lead a campaign that is close to their heart.

We have four year-long agendas for 2024/25:

  • Never OK - Everyone has the right to live and study in a safe and supportive community, and we are committed to taking a stand against harassment, sexual misconduct, violence and discriminatory behaviour through action, education, and policy.
  • Stamp Out Spiking (SOS) - The Students’ Union takes a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of spiking. This campaign aims to ensure students feel safe in our venues, and our events team are appropriately trained to recognise, intervene and support in instances of spiking.
  • Cost of Living - The mental and financial burden of the national cost of living crisis is affecting 76% of students across the country, and we are working proactively to support students in this challenging period.
  • Drug Harm Reduction - Students’ Union President Sharanya Sivarajah is lobbying the University to adopt a Drug Harm Reduction stance. Whilst the Students’ Union does not condone drug use, this policy wishes to provide support to students to reduce the risk of overdose or additional mental and physical health complications.

As well as our month-long campaigns below!

  • Black History Month (October) - Over the course of Black History Month, we’ll be spotlighting Black students on campus and celebrating successes from the past, present, and future through our events programme and awareness campaign.
  • MENtion It (November) - This campaign aims to break the stigma of men’s mental health by raising awareness throughout our campus community, as well as fundraising for the Movember cause.
  • Disability History Month (November/December) - Focusing on breaking down barriers, increasing understanding, and showcasing the differences in the disabled community as well as celebrating stories of strength and perseverance within our community.
