Royal Holloway Karate teaches a very traditional form of Shotokan. Karate translates to "Empty Hand" and is regarded as one of the most effective forms of defence against unarmed and armed opponents. Karate is one of the most popular and recognised forms of martial arts around the world.
The Holloway club is affiliated with the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB- one of the largest karate organisations in Britain and around the world). The instructors at Holloway Karate have a combined experience of over 30 years.
The club focuses on using the body as a whole producing more efficient and effective move compared to other styles of karate. A typical session includes; Basics, sparring, Kata, self-defence training as well as all round fitness training.
Karate can improve your way of life in more ways than just improving fitness or self-defence. It helps develop confidence, flexibility, hand eye co-ordination and discipline that can benefit all aspects of life. First session free so come along.
The club is very welcoming to everyone from complete beginners to black belts and anyone in-between. There will be something in the curriculum that challenges everyone. All styles of Karate are welcome here, however the technical aspects will be Shotokan. There is no pressure to wear the uniform (gi), but if you have one feel free to wear it. If you would like one, or any other equipment, please contact Dante.
