Writing

About Us

The Royal Holloway Writing Society was founded to give writers of all levels an opportunity to learn, write and share. Whether you are a seasoned novelist, a ballad-writing amateur or want to fill the 8th notebook you just bought from Paperchase, this is the society for you!

We meet every week and our sessions are split into two parts: a workshop and a social. The workshops give our writers a chance to learn new skills, discuss projects and practice with prompts. The focus of our sessions can be anything from novel writing and poetry to screenwriting - there is something for everyone! The workshop is followed by a social in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, where you can share your writing and get to know the rest of the group.

Outside of the writing workshops, we have so much more to offer you: trips to London, guest speaker events, book crawls and more. There will be plenty of chances to have a laugh, share your work, inspire yourself and learn from each other!

Membership

Purchasing a membership to Writing Society will give you access to all our normal workshops and special events. Our membership fee for 2023/24 will be £4, and this will contribute to the running of the society.

Weekly Workshops and Socials

Our weekly workshops will be held in an array of seminar rooms on campus between 6PM and 7PM every Wednesday (with a break during reading week). Our socials will be held in Crossland's after every session.

Events and Activities

Over the course of the year, we plan to host a range of events, including:

  • Weekly writing workshops and socials
  • Book crawls
  • Guest speaker events
  • Burns Night
  • Christmas celebration in Windsor
  • Paris trip in summer term
