If you’re looking to develop a new skill, flex your creative muscles, or simply unwind after a day of lectures, you’ll find something in our calendar of Give It A Go events.

These are smaller-scale events that are predominantly alcohol-free and focused on you meeting new people in a fun, relaxed and welcoming environment. Some highlights from Freshers' Festival include our Board Games Night, Laser Quest, a Trip to the Theatre and loads more!

So whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, culture vulture or just love a bit of art and craft, we'll have something for you.

Upcoming Events

GIAG Sports Festival: 21st September; Sport Centre; Come along to the Sports Centre to enjoy a variety of free sports sessions led by our student clubs! Open to all ability levels, it’s the perfect chance to meet new people and get active. No experience needed!

Laser Tag: 22nd September; SU Venue; The ultimate laser tag game is back! We're turning the SU into an obstacle filled wasteland so make sure you're there to test your speed and teamwork abilities and capture the flag!

Sunglasses Decorating: 27th September; Tommy's Lounge; Get a little glam for Freshers Ball and decorate a pair of sunglasses! The perfect accessory for the last bit of summer sun and a memento from Freshers 2025!

Give Skateboarding a Go: 29th September; MUGA; Come join us to learn the basics of skateboarding, build confidence and have fun in a supportive, friendly environment. This session is perfect for beginners and those looking to try something new! Plus all equipment is provided.

Decorate a Wine Glass: 2nd October; Tommy's Lounge; Perfect for a night in with the girls, get a little crafty between classes and decorate a wine glass.

Boardgames: 3rd October; Tommy's Lounge; Challenge your friends to a nail biting game of Monopoly or break the ice with a game of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza! If the second game sounds confusing then come on down to give it a go ;)

Give Futsal a GO: 6th October; Sports Hall; Fast-paced, fun, and friendly- come along to our FREE GIAG futsal session! All skill levels welcome, just bring your energy and enjoy the game.

Blind Date with a Book: 7th-28th October; Tommy's Lounge; Hidden behind a very vague description and some brown paper are a host of incredible books just waiting to be discovered! Pick up a book from the book swap shelf and maybe find your new favourite read.

Make a Trinket Dish: 9th October; Tommy's Lounge; Make the perfect place to store the keys you always forget, the rings you've collected or your crystal collection you swear changed your life! This is a two week activity so come back next week to paint and varnish what you make this week.

Cupcake Decorating: 10th October; Tommy's Lounge; Grab an afternoon sweet treat on us with as many sprinkles as your heart desires!

Give Cheerleading and Dance a Go: 13th October; Sports Hall; Come along to our student-led ‘Give It a Go’ Cheerleading and Dance session! Join us for a fun, supportive session to learn basic moves, build confidence, and get active with friends.

Make a Trinket Dish: 16th October; Tommy's Lounge; Make the perfect place to store the keys you always forget, the rings you've collected or your crystal collection you swear changed your life! This is a two week activity so this week we're painting what you made last week.

Mindfulness Colouring: 17th October; Tommy's Lounge; Relax the mind with some mindful colouring sheets

Diwali Craft Afternoon: 20th October; Tommy's Lounge; Celebrate Diwali with us! Rangoli making, tea light holder decorating and more!

Give Pickleball a Go: 20th October; Sports Hall; Join us for a fun and friendly session of this fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Open to all abilities- no experience needed! Plus all equipment is provided.

Make a Photo Frame Keyring: 23rd October; Tommy's Lounge; If you're fed up of driving round and round and round campus to find a parking space then we want to hear from you! Horror stories, car park battles and what we can do to help! Plus we're making photo frame keychains :)

Give Glow Futsal a Go: 27th October; Sports Hall; Come and join us for a futsal session like no other- UV lights, glowing balls and non-stop energy! Led by students, for students, this session is all about having fun and getting active together.

Halloween Crafts: 30th October; Tommy's Lounge; Its Spooky Season!! We've got a bunch of crafty bits to get your fangs or claws into perfect for making your room extra Halloweeenyy

Give MMA a Go: 3rd November; Sports Hall; Try something new with our `Give it a Go` MMA session! Learn the basics of mixed martial arts in a safe and welcoming environment. Open to all levels- no experience needed! Plus equipment is provided.

Give Archery a Go: 10th November; Sports Hall; Come and join us for our Archery "Give it a Go" session. Led by our friendly student clubs, learn the basics, test your skills and enjoy a fun, relaxed activity with friends! No experience needed! Plus equipment all provided.

Give Disability Sports a Go: 17th November; Sports Hall; Come try a variety of disability sports in this `Give it a Go session`. This inclusive, welcoming and fun session is free and open to all students. No prior experience needed, and all equipment provided.

Give Ultimate Frisbee a Go: 24th November; Sports Hall; Come give Ultimate a try! Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly session where you’ll learn the basics of this fast-paced team sport with a flying disc. Open to all abilities and no experience needed. All equipment is provided

Give Dance a Go: 1st December; Sports Hall; Join us for a one-off, student-led Christmas Dance Session! Get into the festive spirit, learn some fun choreography and dance the night away with friends. No experience needed, just bring your energy.

Give Kinball a Go: 8th December; Sports Hall; Come and try Kin-Ball- the fast-paced team sport with a giant inflatable ball! Fun, inclusive, and easy to pick up, this session is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a laugh with friends. No experience needed! Equipment is provided.
