For Black History Month we're diving into Bernadine Evaristo's novel Girl, Woman, Other! Grab a copy from the book swap shelf or bring your own, and get reading! Don't worry if you missed last weeks!

Girl, Woman, Other explores the lives of twelve characters each on their own unique journey of self discovery and growth, experiencing love and loss, joys and struggles. Bernadine Evaristo writes each one with care and compassion but doesn't shy away from making her readers uncomfortable, delving deep into the hardships faced by Black women in Britain through the 20th and 21st Century. She shows us sisterhood, motherhood, changing identities, poverty, racism and so much more to paint a rich and detailed image. Through her mastery of form and a method she coined 'fusion fiction', Evaristo lets her characters breathe and become fully realised. By removing punctuation (which may at first scare a reader!) she not only breaks from western standards of grammar and form but gives these women the agency to think freely on the page. Girl, Woman, Other is fun and bold, a little sexy and overflowing with emotion, a sensational read and one you won't want to put down!
