“Why is my Curriculum White?”- A Panel Discussion

An event hosted by the Women of Colour Collective. Featuring three keynote speakers from a variety of academic and political backgrounds, they will be discussing the absence of non-white academics from higher education curriculum, and the disadvantages that it brings.

The speakers are as follows:

DR. JÖRG HAUSTEIN
Dr. Jörg Haustein is the Senior Lecturer in Religions in Africa at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. He is interested in historical and current dimensions of religions in Africa, with a special interest in their intersection with development efforts. He focuses primarily on African religions from colonialism onward but is also knowledgeable about imperialism and migration studies.

ILYAS NAGDEE
Ilyas Nagdee is the NUS Black Students Officer representing over a million students of colour in universities or colleges across the UK, and he was also the Diversity Officer at the University of Manchester Student Union.

ZAHRA ABDULLAH
Zahra Abdullah is a Statistician and Teaching Fellow at King's College London and has done extensive work on diversity in the curriculum at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience - particularly addressing the BME attainment gap and is also involved in a Diversity and Inclusion project at KCL.
