PAYING FOR PRESCRIPTIONS.

The NHS prescription charge is currently £9.15 for each prescribed item, which means that there is a charge for each different drug or medical appliance on your prescription.

Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs)

A PPC lets you get as many NHS prescriptions as you need for a set price. If you regularly pay prescription charges, a PPC could save you money.

Rather than paying £9.15 per item, a PPC will cost you £29.65 for 3 months or £105.90 for 12 months.

NHS Low Income Scheme

If you have a low income, the NHS Low Income Scheme could help you pay for:

How much help you get depends on your weekly income and necessary outgoings, plus any savings or investments you have at the time you apply.

In England, the limit is:

  • £23,250 for people who live permanently in a care home
  • £16,000 for everyone else

Any help you’re entitled to is also available to your partner, if you have one.

If you have already paid for treatment, you can apply for a refund at the same time as you apply for the scheme.
